History
1971 | In a meeting of the Diet in 1970, a partial amendment of the Patent Law was approved to open patent information to the public, and the resulting necessity of setting up a new institution which could rapidly process and make available the vast patent information through the use of computers was unanimously agreed upon at the same time. In accordance with that decision, Japan Patent Information Center (JAPATIC), the predecessor of Japio, was established in 1971 with financial assistance from the Government and private sector led by the Japan Federation of Economic Organizations. |
1978 | JAPATIC developed and lauched the first on-line patent information retrieval system in Japan, thanks to the provision of data materials by the Japan Patent Office (JPO). |
1985 | JAPATIC and the patent information service department of the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation were merged into the Japan Patent Information Organization (Japio) to provide comprehensive patent information services, under the guidance of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and JPO. |
April 1, 2001 | Japio was reorganized through partial transfer / privatization of its services. |
September 1, 2009 | Japio has transformed into a general incrporation foundation in response to the reform of the public-interest corporations system. |
August 1, 2015 | Japio was celebrated 30th anniversary. |
